My apologies to readers for the long hiatus from posting and responding to comments. I am swamped with work-related activities and working on my systems science textbook. I have some things in the pipeline but need to focus on teaching and research at work (University of Washington Tacoma) as the new academic year starts up.
Coming up: a tutorial on net energy and the economy. What really worries me is that we are focusing on peak oil (appropriately enough) but missing the fact that it is net energy that feeds the economy that is actually having the major impact on economic activity right now. We are basically worrying about shutting the barn door after the horses are long out. As a result we are going to be trying to solve the wrong problems in the near term.
It will be a few days more before I can concentrate on the comments of past posts and start putting up new material. Events are coming at a faster pace. The situation with oil extraction rates are very telling (please follow the discussions on The Oil Drum ad the Energy Bulletin web sites to get the latest news on what is happening in this realm). I am considering ratcheting up my own efforts in this area.
So I hope readers will forgive me for dragging my butt. But more is coming soon.
George
You are NOT dragging your butt. You are a teacher, and teachers do not have time to drag their butts! You are working your butt off. NO apologies necessary. Your students will appreciate your considerable efforts.
Jorge Rodrigues' article on The Oil Drum was REAL interesting - not really surprising , but pretty compelling. I noticed that Gail the actuary seemed impressed by it too.
