Spam Filtering Screwups
My apologies to readers who have not seen legitimate posts show up. Typepad's spam filter is a mess. I have been routinely checking the sequestered posts to make sure that there were not any valid ones caught. For several weeks there have not been problems but this morning a whole raft of posts showed up out of nowhere (as far as I can tell). I have published them all, or at least the ones I know about, even though they may be a little dated. I cannot understand where they were being kept that I didn't see them.
In any case please forgive me. In the future, if you have a post that doesn't show up immediately, be aware that I do not have them held for moderation. My moderator removes uncaught spam after it has been posted and deletes commercial URLs if the post is not obviously spam. But your posts should show up right away. So if they don't please feel free to e-mail me to let me know. I will get them published ASAP.
Some suggestions to avoid filtering:
Keep comments relatively short. I get by with long responses because I am the owner. If you have a lot to say try spreading it over a few shorter posts. But allow a little time between so the filter doesn't think you are a bot.
Try to avoid commercial sounding language, like "if you buy that" or "you should try this." Phrases like that have caught some posts in the past.
If you have a recognizable blog URL (e.g. blogspot) the filter doesn't seem to mind the .com domain. But otherwise if you put a URL in that is a .com domain, it might get tagged and sequestered.
Thanks for your patience.
George

I do not write a lot of responses, but after reading a bunch of remarks on this page Question Everything: Eating Spam. I actually do have a few questions for you if you do not mind. Could it be only me or do a few of the responses appear like they are coming from brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are writing at other places, I'd like to keep up with you. Would you post a list of all of your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
